Children of Greenpeace NZ: Stop Deep Sea Oil
I attended my first demonstration on 29th March, a Greenpeace protest in Auckland, New Zealand to stop deep sea oil drilling. Thousands gathered in Victoria Park and proceeded to march up to Sky City where a huge oil conference was being held. The crowds beat their drums to mimic the seismic blasts carried out by the oil companies in the oceans which are distressing marine life, in hope to discourage them from drilling and instead turn to clean, renewable energy.
It surprised me how many children were there, beating their smaller drums alongside their parents' bigger ones, but making just as much noise about the cause. I wanted to document the event from their perspective, trying to decide whether the passion and excitement they were exuding was genuine or a mirror of their parents behaviour.
